1. So who are you guys?
We are officially known as the "Hong Kong Mac User Group (HKMUG)" ', a group of Apple enthusiasts who share one passion - our love for technology, especially Apple's products. But we're not all IT nerds. And we're not mindless Apple fanboys either. Most of us have "normal" jobs but are using technology on a daily basis - like so many of us. We meet once a month on every second Tuesday of the month to demo new software and apps or introduce new gadgets we found.
2. Is the Hong Kong Mac User Group (HKMUG) part of Apple?
No. The Hong Kong Macintosh User Group is an independent, registered non-profit organisation in Hong Kong. HKMUG is registered under the Hong Kong Community Ordiance. We have an established structure, a constitution, and a committee, just like every registered non-profit organisation in Hong Kong.
3. What are "Macintosh User Groups" anyway?
Mac User Groups go back a long time. The first Mac User Groups were started in the U.S. in the 1970s, when the Mac just came out. In the 1980s and 1990s they were quite popular, especially during the "shareware movement". If you want to know more, please read the article on Wikipedia.
4. Why should I join? What's in for me?
In becoming a member of HKMUG you have the chance to meet like-minded people like us who love technology. Plus, you can win cool prices at our lucky draws and will be entitled to discount at our sponsor, New Vision Technology. You will receive a 10% discount on all produces above HKD 1,000 (cash payment only) when you show your HKMUG membership card.
5. Where is the monthly meeting?
The monthly meeting is held at the Kowloon Cricket Club, 10 Coxs Road, Jordan. After you enter the premises through the front door, turn right immediately and enter the room.
6. Why do you meet at the Kowloon Cricket Club?
Some of the HKMUG members are also members of the Kownloon Cricket Club (KCC). KCC was so generous to allow us using a meeting room on their premises once a month. And the food there is just amazing!
7. So what does it cost to become a member?
In the past, we had a membership fee of HKD 300 per year and HKD 30 per meeting. Now the membership is HKD 100 a year. Attending the meetings is free for members.
8. Who is "New Vision Technologies" and what are they doing on the top of your page?
New Vision Technologies is a proud sponsor of HKMUG. New Vision Technologies have supplied Apple users in Hong Kong for over 20 years. We're proud to have such an experienced Apple Solution Provider as our sponsor.
9. What else is there?
Cool people, great food, new friends for life and all that for free? What else do you need?
